A couple of recent developments could force the City of Butler into financial difficulties before the end of 2019.
According to Director of Accounts and Finance Councilman Mike Walter, a $25,000 tax overpayment refund expense is one of the items that wasn’t planned for, and could result in the city running out of money.
“We’re going to be tight,” Walter said during a Butler City Council meeting on Thursday. “We might have to take a small loan out to fund our budget for the rest of the year because there were a number of un-budgeted items that came up this year.”
Walter could not say when he would know for sure if a loan would be necessary but he did say budget concerns are an ongoing issue. Nothing is finalized.
Butler City has had to take out a loan to meet budget shortfalls in the past but it has not happened while Walter has been in office.
