Organizers of the community meal program in Butler say they’ve seen an uptick of the number of people picking up food.
The Community Meal Ministry is a combined effort by local churches in Butler City that helps feed those in need five nights a week.
Since the change in the requirements to be eligible for the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, there has been an increase in people attending the dinner according to volunteer Ray Christy.
“In the spring we had about 350 people coming regularly, now we’re up to 400 plus every night. These people have no food,” Christy said.
The churches are always looking for volunteers to assist and donations as well.
