Governor Josh Shapiro was in Philadelphia Tuesday with United States Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to promote direct file with the IRS.
Last year twelve states took part in a pilot free trial IRS direct file program for federal and state taxes. Now Pennsylvanians will be able to file their taxes for free through the myPATH IRS Direct file tool.
The IRS free direct file was a part of the Inflation Reduction Act. According to the governor’s office Pennsylvanians spend an average of $270 per filing. Those that used the pilot program saw more than $90 million in refunds and saved $5.6 million in filling fees.
