The Pennsylvania Independent Fiscal Office (IFO) has released the gross tax amount on electricity sales and the revenue continues to increase.
In the last five of six years, the commonwealth has seen an increase in taxes collected from electricity sales.
For 2025-26, the growth rate was 14.8 percent and 2026-27 is currently projected to be 13.7 percent. It will bring an estimated $1.3 billion to the state in tax revenue for this year.
According to the IFO, around half the money collected is paid by commercial or industrial users. The IFO also claims residents who make under $100,000 are paying nearly half of the residential tax collection.
Two house bills are currently being considered in the house to eliminate the tax of electricity.
