Elizabeth “Betty” Baptiste, 81, of Butler, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Aug, 27, 1944, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Carl “Burt” Gray and Catherine Denny Gray.
Betty was employed for 43 years and 10 months at Butler Memorial Hospital. She was known as “Betty Jane from 5 Main.”
She enjoyed playing Bingo, and she loved caring for her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by one son, LeRoy “Lee Baptiste, Jr. and his wife, Dena, of Butler; one daughter, Leesa Klemz (Chuck Young), of Butler; four grandchildren, Crystal Baptiste (Brian Fritz), Jacqulyn Baptiste (Anthony Bowen), Samantha “Little Angel” Klemz (Mason Montag), and Mark “Marky” Klemz, Jr. (Lauren Bayer), all of Butler; one great-grandson, Danek Critchlow; one stepbrother, Bill McLaughlin, of Butler; numerous nieces and nephews; and her fur baby, Roscoe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LeRoy Baptiste, Sr., who passed away May 22, 1985; two sisters, Joyce Stevens and Mary Mulneix; four stepbrothers, Bob McLaughlin, Donnie McLaughlin, Jim McLaughlin, and John “Pump” McLaughlin; and one stepsister, Charity Kemper.
A Blessing Service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Martin Funeral Home Downtown, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, with Rev. Kevin C. Fazio officiating.
Visitation will immediately follow the Blessing Service until 8 p.m. Friday.
Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Herman.
