While working on a major road project in Armstrong County, an endangered bird protected by federal law was discovered.
While working on the $45.6 million Graff Bridge preservation project in a Peregrine Falcon nest was discovered. The bird is protected by federal law as an endangered spice.
The Graff Bridge carries Route 422 over the Allegheny River in North Buffalo Township.
When the falcons were discovered there was no work stoppage and completion of the project will not be delayed due to the discovery.
Crews worked around the birds; the project is still on track to finish in the fall of 2027.
The chicks in the nest have now left the nest and work has resumed in that area of the project.
