Forward Township officials have delayed a decision regarding the recommendation of a plan to allow a data center to be built.
The Thursday evening meeting of the township’s planning commission was held in the maintenance building and attended by around 400 people.
The meeting began with a presentation by the developers of the Misty Hollow Energy and Data Campus that included information such as a 274 acre site featuring a one million square foot natural gas powered data center. Although representatives have been reviewing property and requirements for three years, many elements of the plans still seemed to be undetermined including waste water, environmental impact, and final design.
Township residents were then allowed to give public comment with the tone of 45 speakers overwhelmingly negative regarding the plans. Many expressed concerns that a large number of issues could not be clarified such as heat, noise and vibrations, air quality, and fire concerns.
At the conclusion of the public comment, planning commission members voted to table their consideration of preliminary approval until the developer answers questions from a review letter by the township engineer.
The meeting of the Forward Township Supervisors next week will not include this plan on the agenda with the next time it is expected to be considered at the next meeting of the planning commission on October 22nd.
