A local business was recently honored by Governor Josh Shapiro and are now accepting new applicants.
According to the PA Department of Environmental Protection, Giant Eagle has been honored with the Award for Environmental Excellence for zero waste achievement at RSC warehouses and manufacturing facilities.
The company diverted 100 percent of waste from its regional distribution centers and manufacturing facilities away from landfills and partnered with regional food banks to donate approximately 1.8 million pounds of food.
This is one of 26 projects from across the state recognizing innovative efforts to improve air and water quality, reduce pollution, restore ecosystems, and build healthier, more sustainable communities throughout Pennsylvania.
