Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf says at least four children from his state were recently separated from their parents by U.S. border patrol agents.
Wolf sent a letter Monday to Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan requesting that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) immediately halt any enforcement activities in the state that result in the temporary or permanent separation of children until the agency can publicly produce a protocol for ensuring the welfare of children.
He requested an account of each child that was separated from their parents so far this year- including how long they were separated and what steps were taken to assure their safety and well-being.
Wolf called the practice of separating children from their parents as “absolutely irresponsible” and said he believes the separation creates trauma that causes short- and long-term harm to children.
