A Butler man is facing homicide charges after he allegedly killed his two-month old son.
Police received a call Saturday afternoon around 2:40 for a two-month old infant that was not breathing. This happened at a home in the 100 block of Spooner Drive in Butler Township.
When police arrived on scene, they found the infant had apparent bruising on his head and torso. The child was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police charged the infant’s father 32-year-old Vincent Miceli of Butler with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.
According to charging documents, the mother of the child was taken to work around 11 a.m. Saturday, leaving Miceli alone with child. Miceli told police that the child took a nap and then he played with the infant. Miceli did not tell police how the child got the bruise on his head, but said it got larger as the afternoon went on. The mother said the child did not have any bruises when she left for work.
Miceli went to the kitchen to get a bottle for the infant around 2:30 p.m. and said the baby was shaking when he got back into the room. The child was unresponsive when EMS got on scene. When asked to describe the actions of the child when he got back from the kitchen, police quoted Miceli as saying “dude he was dead.” Police also say Miceli did not call 911 at any point during the day.
Charging documents also say Miceli showered when he saw police arrive at the home.
The autopsy found the infant died due to blunt force trauma. It also found the bruising of the torso and head were verified.
Miceli was taken into custody and is in the Butler County Prison. He was denied bail.
