Jean Grohman, 79, of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Elmcroft of Saxonburg.
She was born May 10, 1938 in Butler, Pennsylvania to the late Earl Coe Grohman and the late Genevieve Davis Grohman.
Miss Grohman earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Westminster College and three Master’s Degrees; one in English and one in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and one in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked as a Reference Librarian at the Butler Public Library, serving as a rich and generous community resource for nearly 27 years. Jean loved to read, write poetry, and play the piano.
She is survived by two brothers, Edward Davis Grohman of Knoxville, TN, and Donald Davis Grohman and his wife Melinda Hoffecker Grohman of Chattanooga, TN; two sisters, Margaret Grohman Burns and her husband Neal Orral Burns of Bakersfield, CA, and Elizabeth “Beth” Davis Rowett and her husband Stanley James Rowett of Novato, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews for whom she has been a loving aunt.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends will be received on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 3 to 4 pm at St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., Butler, PA 16001.
Funeral services will be held immediately following at 4 pm at St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Merry Meloy officiating.
Private Burial will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested in Jean Grohman’s name to the Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., Butler, PA 16001.
