John B. “Bernie” Leinenbach, 88, of Butler, died Sunday, April 1, 2018, at the Chicora Medical Center.
Born October 30, 1929 in Butler, he was a son of the late Joseph and Helen (Conrad) Leinenbach.
John had worked as a salesman for Magnetics in East Butler, retiring in 1994. He was also the owner and operator of Leinenbach’s General Store in Herman.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman, where he was also an usher, was a member of various clubs in the Butler area, was notary public for many years, was past president for the Magnetics Federal Credit Union and had sponsored a mens softball team. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, gambling, picnics and attending family gatherings.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the United States Army.
Surviving are his 6 children: John B. (Terri) Leinenbach, Jr. of Chicora; Anita (Joe) Stevenson of Slippery Rock; Keith (Sue) Leinenbach of Cabot; Bruce (Renea) Leinenbach of Fredonia, NY; Gay (Rich) Hawkey of Butler; Brian Leinenbach, and his companion Crystal of Lyndora.
2 step children: Michael (Christine) Jones and Debra Doutt, and her companion Jason.
15 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.
1 brother, James Leinenbach of St. Petersburg, FL.
1 brother-in-law, Les (Sally) Passarelli of Saxonburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wives, Gail J. (Fry) Leinenbach and Gloria J. Passarelli Jones; 1 son, Blase F. “Butch” Leinenbach; 2 daughters, Gail and Brenda Leinenbach; 1 brother, Joe “Regis” Leinenbach and 1 sister, Helen Oesterling.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Private Funeral Services will be held for his family. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Herman.
