The girls wrestling coach at Knoch High School has been reinstated after an investigation and a closed-door conversation with school board members.
Nearly 200 concerned students and parents attended the Knoch School Board meeting to defend Logan Downes who was suspended from his role as head coach earlier this month.
After Downes gave a congratulatory tap on the backside to a girl during a wrestling tournament earlier this season, school administrators met their obligation as mandated reporters in notifying Childline which led to an investigation by Children and Youth Services and the State Police.
According to Superintendent Dr. David Foley, that investigation has been finalized, allowing the board to discuss the situation in executive session before making the decision to return Downes to his position, although some said they did not condone his actions.
Knoch School Board President Donna Eakin said that athletic department administrators will develop and implement an education program for coaches as soon as possible.
