It was graduation day on Friday for 187 students at the South Butler County School District.
Superintendent David Foley said the students are already demonstrating how their lives with take divergent paths with 137 of them headed to college; 17 headed directly into the workforce and two students serving our country in branches of the military. Others are still deciding on their futures.
Foley also wished a “happy summer” to Knoch’s other 2,000 students, and warned of summer dangers- especially safe driving for teens.
“I hope the summer lives up to everyone’s expectations with lots of time spent outdoors with family and friends,” Foley said in a community email to district parents sent on Friday. “Like all school administrators, though, my hopes for great fun for the kids is always muted by the many dangers that summer brings to young people. Please be particularly cautious, parents, during these summer months to make sure children are always well supervised when around water, that they always have a buddy when riding bikes or visiting crowded vacation spots, and that they protect themselves from health threats like tick bites.”
Foley also pointed to the dangers of summer teen driving.
“In particular, I’d like to implore teen drivers and their parents to be particularly cautious over the summer vacation,” Foley said. “The many fun opportunities that arise for teens during the summer result in much more time spent on the road – often with friends in the vehicle. Students, please remember to put your phone out of reach, limit the number of “guests” in your vehicle, adhere to the speed limit, and definitely do not drink and drive. We want every Knoch student to be happy, healthy, and well-rested when fall arrives.”
