With an increase in spoof texts attempting to solicit money from people, lawmakers want to ban the Turnpike Commission from collecting payments via text messages.
Current Pennsylvania law allows for the Turnpike commission to use text messages in attempt to notify drivers about tolls, fees, and enforcement actions. Scammers have also been known to use text messages in an attempt to solicit payments.
The Turnpike Text Notification Ban bill would officially ban this practice by government officials in its entirety in Pennsylvania.
The bill has not been formally introduced in the house and is seeking co-sponsors.
