Lois Fern Anthony, 89, of Sugarcreek Twp., East Brady, went to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, April 3, 2018 at Butler Memorial Hospital while surrounded by her loving family.
Fern was born in Sugarcreek Twp., Armstrong County on January 2, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ida Mae King Griffiths.
She was a 1947 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora. Fern had been a lifelong member of the Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church near Chicora. Fern enjoyed eating out, corn hole toss, the company of her dogs, family picnics, and most especially Bible studies.
Fern was married on September 16, 1955 at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church in Chicora to Gerald Dale Anthony. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2008.
She had been employed at Hutchison Dry Cleaning and Dunn Candy Co., both of Butler and Sugarcreek Rest Home.
Fern is survived by two sons, Kirby Joe Anthony and his wife, Kim, of Thurmont, MD and Bryce Allen Anthony and his wife, Darla, of Butler; two daughters, Charlene Mae Newbern and her husband, Patrick, of Butler and Melinda Ruth Gilhousen and her fiancé, Marvin Hall, of Rimersburg; five grandchildren, Kayla Gilhousen of Akron, OH, Keirstin Gilhousen of Rimersburg, Katelyn Gilhousen and her fiancé, Mike Brown, of Rimersburg, Jordan Anthony and Matthew Anthony of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Fern was preceded in death by three sisters, Erma McElroy, Elma Killean, and Aida Elder; four brothers, H.S. “Bill” Griffiths, Wayne “Pepper” Griffiths, Donald Griffiths and Willard “Chappe” Griffiths.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 1 – 3 and 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday. A private funeral service will be held Saturday from the funeral home with Elder Judy Komperda, from the Pittsburgh Seventh-day Adventist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mt.
