The merger between Mars Borough and Adams Township will officially be on the ballot this November.
After the public hearing about the merger, borough council approved the merger by a 6-1 vote.
This comes after the Adams Township Board of Supervisors approved the merger last month.
Before the merger can advance any further it has to receive 50 percent or more of the vote both the borough and township.
Both municipalities believe a merger would help lower costs.
