Michael J. Kowal, 79, of Pittsburgh, originally of Butler, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at Juniper Village of Forest Hills.
Born Feb. 7, 1946, in Butler, he was a son of Stanley Kowal, Sr. and Lucy Fornelli Kowal.
He spent 30+ years as an accountant for Armco Butler Works, as well as a go-to tax accountant for many throughout Butler County. He also served on the board of the Butler Armco Employees Credit Union.
In his spare time, Mike loved spending time with family and friends, exercising, reading, listening to music, and partaking in good food and drink. Vacationing in the Outer Banks was an annual must.
He was the father of Jennifer Kowal, Erin Downs of Seminole, Fla., and Melissa Lang and her husband, Andrew, of Pittsburgh; the brother of David Kowal, Stanley Kowal, Jr., and Richard Kowal; and the grandfather of Dylan and Emma Downs and Owen Lang.
Mike was the loving husband of the late Kathleen Kelly Kowal, who passed away Jan. 2, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Katherine Christie and Lucille Keene.
Per his wishes, there was no visitation, and services were private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or just perform a random act of kindness in memory of Mike.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Martin Funeral Home South Side, 429 Center Ave., Butler.
