MLB Wild Card Playoffs:
–The Los Angeles Dodgers are the first team to reach the Divisional Round after defeating the Cincinnati Reds 8-4 last night. The Dodgers had six doubles in the game to sweep the best-of-three series 2-0. The Dodgers will travel to Philadelphia Saturday and have announced Shohei Ohtani will be their starting pitcher for Game 1.
–The Cleveland Guardians scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Detroit Tigers 6-1 and force a Game 3 today at 3pm. The game will be televised on ABC.
–The San Diego Padres shutout the Chicago Cubs 3-0 to force Game 3 today. Four Padres pitchers held the Cubs scoreless, including Bethel Park native Mason Miller, who struck out all five batters he faced in relief. The game today begins just after 5pm and will be televised on ESPN.
–The New York Yankees also forced a Game 3 tonight following a 4-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Former Pirate David Bednar earned a save by striking out two of three batters to close the game in the ninth inning. Game time tonight is 8pm on ESPN.
