The Moniteau baseball team defeated Redbank Valley 1-0 Monday to win the District 9 Class 2A championship. The Warriors victory ended Redbank’s three-year championship run. Dawson Cook pitched a four-hit complete-game shutout. He struck out 10 batters, including the final two he faced to clinch the title. Cook also scored the games’ only run. After he singled in the fourth inning, he was doubled home by his brother Weston. Both teams advance into the state tournament.
The Karns City baseball team fell 2-1 to Bedford in a District 5-9 PIAA tournament Sub-Regional game.
St Marys defeated the Karns City softball team 9-7 in the District 9 Class 3A championship game.
The Moniteau softball team fell to Keystone 7-3 in the Class 2A District 9 consolation game.
–The Butler baseball team will meet North Allegheny Wednesday afternoon for the Class 6A WPIAL championship. The game will be played at EQT Park in Washington, home of the Wild Things. First pitch is 4pm. The game will be carried on WBUT.
–The North Catholic softball team will meet Hampton tonight in the Class 4A WPIAL Third-Place Consolation game. First pitch is 7pm at North Allegheny high school.
