The Slippery Rock Area School District has been ordered by the Commonwealth Court to reinstate a previously dismissed administrator while an appeal continues.
A statement issued by Slippery Rock Superintendent Dr. Angelo Angelucci to parents confirmed that the district plans to comply with the order to reinstate Dr. Kristie Shulsky as principal at Moraine Elementary while the appeal of a decision made by the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education continues.
Shulsky was fired as principal in April 2024 after school district officials accused her of misconduct and coming into work intoxicated. But during the discovery phase of the investigation several people testified they did not believe Shulsky had consumed alcohol.
In July, then interim Secretary of Education Dr. Carrie Rowe ruled in favor of Shulsky saying there was not enough evidence to relieve her of her duties. Then last month the board chose to appeal the decision.
It is not clear what role, if any, Shawn Zappia will have as he was hired earlier this year to take over as principal at Moraine. Classes begin today for Slippery Rock students.
