A lawmaker is looking to harshen the penalties for people who bring loaded guns into the airport.
The Pittsburgh International Airport saw a record number of guns confiscated at security checkpoints in 2023 with 44 firearms.
State Representative Dan Frankel of Allegheny County is proposing that residents who are caught with a gun at an airport should lose to license to carry permit.
He says that adding in stiffer penalties should bring more attention to the issue.
Guns can be brought into airports, but they must be unloaded, checked, and placed in a hard-case.
