Pennsylvania officials are reminding residents of resources to help them quit smoking.
Thursday marked the Great American Smokeout, a day that urges the 34 million Americans to take steps to quit smoking. In Pennsylvania, the Department of Health says that the percentage of state residents who smoke has fallen by 33 percent over the last nine years. It’s estimated that about 14 percent of adults in the state are smokers.
The Health Department runs the PA Free Quitline, which offers services to quit smoking. That includes up to five coaching sessions, unlimited calls to the line, and free Nicotine Replacement Therapy for qualified callers.
