Pennsylvania American Water is notifying residents about testing underway at a couple of local waterways.
Monthly water quality sampling by boat on the Lake Oneida and Thorn Run reservoirs has been taking place this week.
Communities serviced by these sources include the City of Butler; Connoquenessing, East Butler and Saxonburg boroughs; and Butler, Center, Clinton, Connoquenessing, Donegal, Forward, Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Lancaster, Oakland, Penn and Summit townships.
This enhanced monitoring program allows for better understanding of changing conditions in the reservoirs so that treatment processes can be adjusted if necessary to achieve maximum water quality.
PA American Water also uses solar-powered mixers to prevent algae growth through continuous circulation within both reservoirs.
While public fishing is allowed from the shore, recreational boating is prohibited on both reservoirs.
