Today is expected to be the busiest travel day of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
With heavy traffic expected, PennDOT has tools available to see regional, up to the minute color coded maps of traffic speeds to help with travel planning decisions.
Staff will be monitoring local interstates and advising motorists to use alternative parallel routes in the event of a major highway incident. Roadwork projects will also be restricted on all regional interstates.
The turnpike is expected to be especially congested today from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. as well as Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. Extra maintenance personnel will be patrolling along with State Police.
