The Buffalo Sabres defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Both teams scored short-handed goals in the first period, with the Penguins goal coming from Bryan Rust, his 21st of the season. The Sabres took control of the game in the second period on a power-play, then scored another short-handed goal. 11 penalties were called in the game, but the most damaging was a slashing penalty on Evgeni Malkin in the second period. He was ejected from the game and will likely face league discipline for hitting a Buffalo player in the head.
