The Texas Rangers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-1 last night in the final game of their three-game series. Veteran Texas pitcher Jacob DeGrom held the Bucs to five hits and one run while pitching into the sixth inning. He struck out 10 batters.
It was the 62nd game in DeGrom’s two-time Cy Young career that he has struck out at least 10 batters in a game.
The lone Pirate run came on an Oneil Cruz home run in the fifth inning off DeGrom. Cruz now has eight home runs and 23 Runs Batted In.
Bubba Chandler started for the Bucs. He allowed all six earned runs over four innings. Chandler gave up seven hits, walking three and striking out four. His record fell to 1-2 and his ERA climbed to 4.88.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers tonight. First pitch is 7:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:15 pm. Paul Skenes will start for the Bucs.
Milwaukee faced reigning American League Cy Young Award-winner Tarik Skubal of Detroit last night (they lost 5-4). Tonight, by facing Skenes, the Brewers will become the first MLB team in history to face both reigning Cy Young Award winners in back-to-back games.
The Pirates and Brewers play Saturday at 7:10pm.
