The Pirates selected right-handed high school pitcher Seth Hernandez with their #6-pick in the opening round of the Major League Baseball draft in Atlanta last night. Hernandez was the Gatorade National Player of the Year while starring for Corona High School in California.
The Washington Nationals selected high school shortstop Ethan Willets from Oklahoma with the first overall pick.
The Pirates made four selections on during the opening night of the draft. They took another right-handed pitcher in the second round, then added two college hitters, a third baseman and a catcher. The draft continues this morning. The Pirates have 17 picks today.
