The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals for the first time in six games this season following a 7-0 victory last night. Konnor Griffin led the Pirates with a four-hit night and scored three times. Spencer Horwitz hit his fourth home run of the year in the 2nd inning. The Bucs opened the game up with a four-run eighth inning.
Carmen Mlodzinski pitched five shutout innings, allowing four hits as he earned his fourth win of the year. Four Pirate relievers pitched four scoreless innings to close the game and end a Pirates four-game losing streak.
The Bucs and Cards close their series this afternoon at 1:15pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 12:50pm. Braxton Ashcraft will start for the Pirates. The Bucs head to Toronto after the game.
The Pirates will open a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs Memorial Day Monday afternoon.
