The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 3-2 to the Baltimore Orioles Thursday afternoon, suffering their second straight series sweep. The Pirates have now lost six games in a row. They lost all three games in Baltimore by one run.
The Bucs outhit the Orioles 9-7, but went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Pirates starting pitcher Johan Oviedo did not figure into the decision. He pitched into the sixth inning, allowing two runs and striking out five. Reliever Colin Holderman allowed a run in the seventh inning and took the loss.
The Pirates are now 24-31 in one-run games this season. They have now gone 22-50 on the road, the second-worst mark in baseball. That compares to 42-33 at PNC Park.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the Washington Nationals tonight. First pitch is 6:45pm. Mitch Keller will start for the Bucs.
