The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago White Sox 2-0 last night to complete a three-game series sweep. Jared Jones took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, before allowing a two-out double. He ended the night allowing just the one hit while walking two and striking out eight.
Mason Montgomery earned his 12th save of the season to close the game, following a perfect eighth inning by reliever Luke Weaver.
Oneil Cruz had three hits and drove in both Pirates runs. He hit his 18th home run of the season.
Last night’s win was the Pirates fourth in a row. They are now 4-1/2 back in the Wild Card race with 15 games remaining.
The Bucs open a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs this afternoon. All three of their weekend games have a 2:20pm start time. Wilbur Dotel is the scheduled starting pitcher this afternoon. WISR Pre-game begins at 1:55pm.
The Pirates have lost starting pitcher Braxton Ashcraft to the Injured List with pitching arm soreness. He was placed on the 15-day IL retroactive to last Monday.
