Congressman Mike Kelly is calling for more oversight to the Medicare payments.
During a hearing last week in Washington, Kelly said a combination of errors, fraud, and abuse is costing the Medicare Trust Fund $60 billion each year.
The Medicare Trust Fund is projected to run out of funding in 2033 according to Kelly.
“The financial harm being done to taxpayers and patients through fraud is staggering,” Kelly said. “We’re $39 trillion in debt, and we’re looking at a system that has so much fraud in it. This isn’t a Republican problem or a Democratic problem. It’s an American problem because the American taxpayer is footing the bill for this fraud.”
