The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8-3 Tuesday night. Catcher Henry Davis hit his sixth home run of the year and Bryan Reynolds hit two doubles and scored twice.
Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller earned his sixth victory of the season. He allowed three hits and three runs over six innings. Keller walked one and struck out nine.
Reynolds hit his 33rd and 34th doubles of the season, which moves him into a tie with Atlanta’s Matt Olson for the National League lead. Reynolds now has 12 doubles alone in the month of August, most in his career in one month. He is now batting .304 since the All-Star break.
Jared Triolo, batting leadoff for the Bucs, had two hits and scored a run. He is batting .338 over the past month.
Oneil Cruz was activated from the seven-day concussion list prior to the game. He went 0-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.
To make room for him on the roster, the Pirates have designated Andrew Heaney for assignment.
The Bucs and Cards play again tonight at 7:45pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:20pm. Carmen Mlodzinski will start for the Pirates.
St. Louis first baseman Willson Contreras drew a six-game suspension and was fined for a tirade over balls and strikes in the Cardinals Monday night win over the Pirates. During the argument with the home plate umpire, Contreras threw a bat, hitting one of his coaches. He will appeal the suspension.
