Rudolph “Rudy” J. Spino, 100, of Butler passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026. He was born in Butler on March 12, 1926, to the late Joseph and Erminia (Perrone) Spino. After graduating high school, Rudy honorably served in the U.S. Army and then attended Robert Morris University.
Rudy’s main theme throughout his life was work. After retiring from Pullman Standard, he went on a daily basis, to work caring for the maintenance and housekeeping at his son and daughter-in-law’s tavern, Cheers Bar, for over 30 years. He also worked in maintenance for the VNA. On top of that, he also looked after his widowed sister-in-law, who was affectionately known as “Aunt Kay” over the course of about 40 years.
Furthermore, if a family member or friend needed assistance with something, no matter what it was, Rudy could be counted on for showing up and helping, usually with his best buddy, Donnie Meals.
One of Rudy’s hobbies was going to the YMCA, about daily for 50 years, to get his workout in. His “fun” hobby was baking apple pies, which he became famous among family and friends. His pies were absolutely delicious and were always welcomed at family get – togethers.
Rudy was known for being extremely hardworking, a physical fitness advocate and his warm and loving personality. He was loved by many and will be forever missed.
Rudy was the beloved husband of the late Amelia Spino; father of Patrick Spino; brother of Richard Spino; grandfather of Dante Spino; great grandfather of Anthony Spino.
Along with his parents and wife, Rudy was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Spino; siblings: Rose Phillips, Yolanda Jacobs, Margaret Airola, Emilio and Samuel Spino; and his grandson, Dominic.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Monday, September 21, 2026, at All Saints Parish, St. Peter R.C. Church. Burial and committal prayers will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel.
