A number of schools are Butler County were on lock down following a threat earlier this morning.
The Butler Area School District issued the perimeter lockdown for all schools around 11 a.m.
They were soon followed a number of other schools, including Freeport, Moniteau, and Knoch. Other school districts in the county that were taking additional safety measures, although some were not in a complete lockdown.
The nature of the threat was deemed a swatting attempt. When a false threat is made to have force police resources to schools.
According to Superintendent Dr. Brian White the district was contacted by the Butler County 911 Center and were directed to put all schools on lockdown this morning.
White said the threat came through the 911 Center. Parents and guardians had the option to pick up their children at the time of the lockdown, but were not allowed to enter the school.
State police sent troopers to all schools in their coverage area as a precaution.
