Due to an increase in political violence, Pennsylvania State Police are creating a new unit aimed to combat the violence.
Over a year ago the Governor Mansion was set on fire and earlier this month a man threatened several state lawmakers over social media.
In response to the increase in political violence, the state police created the Political Violence Threat Unit as a part of the state’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The unit will “enhance the PSP’s ability to respond to and mitigate incidents of political violence,” according to a statement.
Governor Josh Shapiro has also proposed $550,000 to consolidate security services at the state Capitol under one contract in his 2026-27 budget.
