Pennsylvania will be responsible to pay over $400 million in SNAP benefits next year to cover for errors made when distributing funding.
Since the One Big Beautiful Bill Act has gone into effect, SNAP has seen a 10 percent drop in enrollment. But the state had a 9 percent error rate this year, so Pennsylvania will pay $410 million into the program next year.
The error rate measures the amount of over-and underpayments into the program.
These numbers do not include cuts to federal reimbursements for states to operate the program coming in October.
If states cannot afford to pay for those reimbursements they will have the option to opt out of providing SNAP benefits for next year.
