The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. to their practice squad on Tuesday. The free agent Samuel, underwent spinal fusion surgery in the spring and was not on an NFL roster this season. Drafted by the Chargers in the second round of the 2021 draft, Samuel started 50 games over the past four seasons, including four last season before the injury cut his season short. Samuel, who has six career interceptions, joins an injury-depleted secondary that could use some help at cornerback.
The Steelers host the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday afternoon. The Steelers lead the all-time series against the Bengals 71-41, but the Bengals have won the past two meetings, including a 33-31 victory in Cincinnati last month. The Bengals have won two of the past three games against the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Currently, the Steelers are 5-1/2 point favorites.
