The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran Sean Murphy-Bunting off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad and placed him on their 53-man roster on Monday. The 29-year-old was a starter for Tampa Bay in their most recent Super Bowl victory and had three interceptions during the Buccaneers’ playoff run. He has 11 career interceptions. (Which, by the way, is eight more than Joey Porter, Jr. has had in his career….).
Murphy-Bunting was a second-round draft pick of the Bucs in 2019. That same year, Tampa Bay drafted now-Pittsburgh Steelers DB Jamel Dean in the third round. He signed as a free agent with Tennessee in 2023, then signed a three-year $25 million deal with Arizona in 2024. He played one season with the Cardinals before suffering a knee injury which took him out of the 2025 season. He was a late training camp cut this year, and signed back with Tampa Bay on September 2nd to their practice squad.
The Steelers have also, as expected, placed DL Derrick Harmon on IR. He will not be available until at least Week 10.
