The Pittsburgh Steelers won a wild season opener 23-20 in overtime over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday. Chris Boswell hit a game-winning 53-yard field goal as the overtime period expired. This came after he missed a 55-yard field goal earlier in the overtime, when the football struck the goal post. The Bengals missed a 29-yard field goal in the overtime after missing a game-winning extra point at the end of the fourth quarter.
The Steelers intercepted Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow four times and forced a fumble. Despite the defensive effort, the Bengals outgained the Steelers offensively by almost 200 yards.
The Steelers were hit with several injuries to starting players during the game, including star linebacker TJ Watt, who suffered a pectoral muscle injury. Running back Najee Harris also left the game with a foot injury.
The Steelers host the New England Patriots Sunday for their home opener at 1pm. The Patriots lost 20-7 to Miami in their season opener.
