A group of bipartisan lawmakers are introducing legislation that would enhance the research on the spotted lanternfly.
Republican Congressman Mike Kelly joined with representatives from New York for the Spotted Lanternfly Research and Development Act. The bill’s goal is to stop the spread of the spotted lanternfly.
Kelly says that the invasive insect could “cost hundreds of millions of dollars in economic damage and eliminate thousands of agricultural jobs.”
Officials already estimate that the spotted lanternfly costs the state $300 million due to damage to trees and crops.
