The search is over – the Pittsburgh Steelers have found their new head coach. Pittsburgh native Mike McCarthy will become the Steelers’ 17th head coach and their fourth since 1969.
McCarthy was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 2020-2024. Before that, he was with the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018, leading the Packers to a Superbowl win over the Steelers in 2011.
His NFL record over 17 seasons as a head coach is 169-104-2 and McCarthy is one of only five coaches to lead a franchise to 8 straight playoff appearances.
McCarthy’s hiring marks a departure for the Rooney family, who typically hired young coaches with defensive backgrounds. At 62, he is the second-oldest coach in the NFL and has a long record of offensive success with both the Packers and Cowboys.
The Knoch Knights fell to Obama Academy in the “Roundball Classic” yesterday 56-54. The buzzer-beater loss for the Knights breaks a fourteen-game winning streak.
The Slippery Rock men fell to California 86-75 at home yesterday.
The Pitt men fell to North Carolina 81-72.
The Pittsburgh Penguins complete their current road trip in Vancouver today. Face-off is 6pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 5:30pm. The Pens have won three games in a row, and are going for a road-trip sweep tonight.
