The official holiday travel period kicks off today.
It’s expected to be the busiest holiday for travel since the pandemic began. An estimated 54.6 million Americans will be going more than 50 miles away from their home.
Here in Pennsylvania, there’s an expected 3.5 million drivers who will use the Turnpike. “The worst of those days will be Wednesday, which we project about 690,000 vehicles on the roadway,” Turnpike CEO Mark Compton said. “There are similar trends for PennDOT in terms of traffic numbers, as well as national trends. So wherever you’re traveling, PennDOT, Turnpike, or else, just know that it will be crowded.”
Most travelers will be going to their destination by cars; flying is the second most popular transportation method.
