Motorists should be aware of an upcoming detour around a stretch of Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township.
After initially saying that some southbound lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. today (Friday) until 4 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) to allow for a cross pipe replacement, PennDOT officials now say that the project will take place next Friday (7/25) into next Saturday (7/26).
This work is taking place around Exit 78 to Cranberry/Route 19 but through traffic can continue to travel in the left lane to merge back onto 79 South.
Additionally, overnight and weekend lane closures will continue both northbound and southbound to allow for joint repairs, patching, repaving, and replacement of guiderails from the Exit 77 turnpike on-ramp to the Route 228 exit northbound and to the Weigh Station southbound.
This over $5 million project is expected to be completed by the end of August.
