The Butler Area Transit Authority will receive a new software system thanks to federal CARES Act funding.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation recently awarded a contract to Avail to install software upgrades on buses across the state to allow for better tracking remotely.
Six transit agencies including Butler asked PennDOT if Avail could provide software to help with procurement, payroll, and customer service. PennDOT agreed which allowed for the local authority to enter into a five year agreement with Avail at a total cost of around $377,000.
The money for this software upgrade will come from the federal government as part of the COVID-19 pandemic transit aid through the state to the BTA who will then use it to pay Avail.
