Two individuals in Pennsylvania have died due to measles.
The state Department of Health confirmed the deaths this morning, saying two people from Lancaster County died from the disease. Health officials say the two were not vaccinated.
These are the first deaths attributed to measles in Pennsylvania in 35 years. No age or other information was available about the deaths.
Health Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen issued a statement following the deaths.
“My deepest sympathies are with the loved ones who are facing this unimaginable loss,” Bogen said. “Because measles was largely eliminated in the Commonwealth for more than three decades, people are not familiar with this disease and don’t fully understand the potential severity of the illness.”
DOH has confirmed 393 cases in 29 counties thus far in 2026.
