William S. Rome, Sr.

William S. Rome, Sr., 96, of Cabot, formerly of Herman, passed away Friday, June 26, 2026, in Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 15, 1929, in Braddock, Pa., he was a son of the late Louis P. Rome and Mary Mudic Rome.
Bill worked as a foreman for Butler County Mushroom Farm.
He was a member of Ss. Francis and Clare Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, and he belonged to the RC Men’s Club.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting, gardening, and fishing.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Betsy Grassell and her husband, John, of Branford, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Pattishall, Amy Carbungco and her husband, Eddie, and Stephen Rome and his wife, Kerry; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty McGrady Rome, who passed away June 22, 1996; his son, William S. Rome, Jr.; one grandson, Michael Grassell; and three brothers, Frank Rome, John Rome, and Louis Rome.
Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home Downtown, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, on Tuesday, June 30, from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at Ss. Francis and Clare Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 821 Herman Rd., Butler, with Rev. James Kurtz, OFM, Cap., officiating.
Burial will take place in St, John’s Cemetery, Coylesville.
