A woman from Butler says ICE targeted her husband and now her family is facing self-deportation.
Amanda Smail-Carrizalez spoke at yesterday’s county commissioner meeting. She says back in April her husband Ignacio was pulled over by Evans City Police for a suspected expired registration. Soon, she says ICE agents “violently” took him out of the vehicle and detained her husband.
Smail-Carrizalez says her husband has been in detention ever since, despite having proper documents. She also said he was scheduled to have a permanent residency hearing on June 1st, but wasn’t allowed to attend.
Now, Smail-Carrizalez says her family is facing a self-deportation to Mexico, with their six-year-old daughter who has autism.
She also said it’s been a struggle to access mental health resources.
County Commissioner Leslie Osche says it’s a situation that falls out of their jurisdiction.
