A Chicora woman is facing charges for allegedly stealing over $20,000 in funds from the Butler Girls Softball Booster Club.
Police say 48-year-old Nicole Karenbauer made 39 charges for a total $20,294.
According to charging documents, Karenbauer served as treasurer for the booster club starting around April 2024. Once treasurer, Karenbauer had bank statements mailed to her home.
The missing funds were discovered in January 2026, when several checks from the booster account bounced. After checking the account, police found charges to retail stores, online gambling, and money transfers to Karenbauer’s Cash app.
When interviewed by police she admitted to the amount taken was a mistake and returned the money in June.
Karenbauer was charged with theft by unlawful taking and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for August 20.
