A local organization is helping local students through scholarships.
At a picnic last month, the Rotary Club of Zelienople honored six high school graduates with $1,500 scholarships totaling $9,000.
Students receiving the Doc Viola Community Service Scholarship recognizing local volunteerism as well as academic achievement include Ella Lange of Zelienople who is going to Pitt to major in Occupational Therapy, Mark McConahy of Zelienople who will major in business at Michigan State University, Isabella Muthler of Evans City who plans to attend Pitt to major in Biology, and Ava Platt of Evans City who is seeking a degree in Early and Special Education at Westminster College.
Natalia Verdi of Cranberry received the Lutz Journalism scholarship and is headed to West Virginia University to major in Public Relations and Comparative Politics. Joseph Gaudet of Evans City was awarded the Norbert L. Belsterling Vocational Scholarship and will attend Rosedale Technical College in Pittsburgh to study construction electricity.
